Jesus is God’s Son

  • “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High” (Luke 1:31-32b). “. . . therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God” (Luke 1:35b).

  • “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life” (1 John 5:20).

   Jesus “is the image of

   the invisible God”(Col.1:15)

  • Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?” (John 14:9b-10a).

  • “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature,” (Heb. 1:3a).

  Jesus is the Holy One

  • “So Jesus said to the twelve, ‘Do you want to go away as well?’ Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life,  and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God’“ (John 6:67-69).

Jesus is the Christ/Messiah

  • “He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Simon Peter replied, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’  And Jesus answered him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven’” (Matt. 16:15-17).

  • “The woman said to him, ‘I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.’  Jesus said to her, ‘I who speak to you am he’” (John         4:25-26).

Jesus is the Crucified One

  • “Pilate said to them, ‘Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?’ They all said, ‘Let him be crucified!’  And he said, ‘Why? What evil has he done?’ But they shouted all the more, ‘Let him be crucified!’” . . . . “And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots” (Matt. 27:22-23, 35).

  Jesus is our Ransom

  • “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time” (1 Tim. 2:5-6).

Jesus is the Good Shepherd

  • “So Jesus again said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep’” . . . .    “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”                 (John 10:7, 11).

  Jesus is the Head

  • Jesus “is the head of the body, the church” (Col. 1:18).

  Jesus is the Firstborn

  • Jesus is “the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. . . .” (Col. 1:15b-17).

Jesus is Lord and Teacher

  • “You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet”                           (John 13:13-14).

Jesus is the Light of the World

  • "Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life'” (John 8:12).

Jesus is God’s Unique Son

  • “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16 NASB1995).

Jesus is God, and He Became Human

  • “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1 NIV).

  • The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. . . . grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (John 1:14, 17b NIV).

 Jesus is the Sinless One

  • “Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin” (Heb. 4:14-15).

  • “We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.  For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Cor. 5:20b-21).

  Jesus is Savior

  • “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).

  • “we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world” (John 4:42c).

  • “And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world” (1 John 4:14).

Jesus is the Lamb of God

  • “The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’”            (John 1:29).

  • “For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins” (Heb. 10:4).  “. . . we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.                     And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God” (Heb. 10:10-12).

  Jesus is the Risen Lord

  • “And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, ‘Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.’” . . . . “The Lord has risen indeed” (Luke 24:2-7, 34).

Jesus is the Prince of Peace

  • “For to us a child is born,

         to us a son is given;

        and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
        and his name shall be called
       Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
       Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6).

Jesus is the Way

  • Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’” (John 14:6).

The Authority of Jesus

Godhood and Eternal Enthronement

"But of the Son he says,

'Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom'" (Heb. 1:8).

Living One and Key-Holder

"The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.

 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades" (Rev. 1:14-18).

The Humility of Jesus

Humbled via Human Life and Death

"Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.  And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross" (Phil. 2:5-8).

Rejected, Pierced, Man of Sorrows

"He was despised and rejected by men,
   a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
   he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

 Surely he has borne our griefs
   and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
   smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions;
   he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
   and with his wounds we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
   we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
   the iniquity of us all
" (Isa. 53:3-6).
