Mission
At Who I AM, our aim is to be an expression of God’s heart of compassion for those in the LGBTQ+ community, while standing firm on the foundation that will be the key to their freedom: “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31b-32 NIV). We do not affirm the LGBTQ+ lifestyle, but we do not reject the individual either. We preach what the Bible says, without watering it down: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Prov. 9:10).

Planned Practical Approach:
1) Evangelism through testimony and engaging conversation
2) Ministering through spiritual gifts
3) Deliverance appointments
4) Testimony-sharing and ministry-equipping at special events
5) Discipleship through Bible studies
6) Partnership with local churches to establish new chapters of Who I AM.
Intercessory prayer is vital to all of these endeavors.

Goals
Who I AM has four overarching goals:

1) Restore the Image of Jesus to the LGBTQ+ Community

-
Jesus is more than merely a good person, and the truth about His identity is objective rather than subjective. Scripture says that Jesus is “Savior of the world” (1 John 4:14), God who “became flesh” (John 1:1, 14), and “the Holy One of God” (John 6:69). Who I AM aims to lovingly challenge individuals in the LGBTQ+ community who hold views about Jesus that do not line up with Scripture. With the sharing of personal testimony, ideally these challenges will come across as kind, not as combative. Additionally, Who I AM aims to invite members of the LGBTQ+ community into a personal and experiential relationship with King Jesus, so that Jesus impacts their lives in a profound way—far more than a conceptual notion of Jesus.

2) Identity Restoration for the LGBTQ+ Community

-
Our desire is to meet people where they are, listen to them, and love them. Individuals in the LGBTQ+ community are also invited to repent of wrongs, receive salvation through Jesus Christ, forgive their offenders, and embrace God’s original design for sexual identity (Gen. 1:27) and sexuality (Gen. 1:28; 1 Cor. 6:9-10). Everyone is invited to experience forgiveness through the blood of Jesus (1 John 1:7), to live in holiness (1 Pet. 1:15-16), and to enjoy an identity as God’s child (1 John 3:1) and a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17). Physical healing, inner healing, deliverance, and a loving Christian community may all play a role in the process of restoring the soul and body of people emerging from the LGBTQ+ community.

-
All humanity is called to embrace the biological sex God gave us, and to live in sexual purity. Who I AM aims to lovingly encourage both of these practices.

3) Restoration of the Christian Church’s beliefs and practices related to homosexuality and transgenderism.

-
We aim to call local churches to repentance, if they have A) compromised by affirming the LGBTQ+ lifestyle in their doctrine and practice, or B) sinned by adopting a hateful approach toward those in the LGBTQ+ community.

-
Our desire is to help local churches foster loving atmospheres for the LGBTQ+ community, while simultaneously teaching that same community to embrace the fear of the Lord and repent of their lifestyle.

4) Facilitate the Restoration and Preservation of Family Units

-
Our goal is to form local support groups throughout the DMV area, so that Christians who have loved ones in the LGBTQ+ community can join each other in long-term prayer for their loved ones, and encourage each other to keep hope alive.

-
We aim to lovingly challenge parents, leaders, and other supporters of the LGBTQ+ community (whether they are professing Christians or non-Christians), regarding God’s plan for salvation and holiness, and God’s design for sexual identity and sexual orientation. By doing so, these people will be edified both for this life and for eternity. Furthermore, working to peel back the spread of the LGBTQ+ perspective will help protect minors from being indoctrinated to believe these concepts at a young age. Overall, our aim is to help preserve the family unit structure that God designed, and to help restore family units that have already strayed from God’s design.
