Q&A

Question: Is it possible to be a gay Christian?

Answer: It depends on what you mean by that. If an individual considered themselves gay and then started following Christ, then it is quite possible that for some period of time that individual may think of themselves as a gay Christian, since the Holy Spirit may not convict them about that aspect of their lives right away (e.g., see some detransition testimonies on our Resources page). The process of becoming holy in our day-to-day lives is a lifelong process, and not everything is changed at the instant of conversion. Over time, as the new believer continues to follow Jesus, the Holy Spirit will eventually convict the individual that 'gay' or 'lesbian' is not their identity, and that homosexual practices fall short of God's standard of holiness. At this point, they would call themselves Christians, not gay Christians. [However, it is still quite possible that the individual will experience temptations in the form of same-sex attractions, for the duration of his/her life (although it is also possible that God may bring about opposite-sex attractions in the place of same-sex attractions). See Resources page. Keep in mind that temptations are not the same as actually committing sinful actions.]

On the other hand, if the scenario is that an individual has been walking with Christ for many years, knows the Scriptures that speak against homosexuality, and has chosen to live in deliberate rebellion against God's design and God's word, then one may reasonably wonder if this person is truly saved. It is not possible to follow Christ long-term while fully and intentionally embracing a "gay" identity and practice that one knows is disobedient to God.

Question: Is it possible to follow Christ as a non-binary child of God?

Answer: Technically, no. When you receive salvation through Jesus, you become a child of God, and you would either be an adopted daughter of God (for those born as biological females) or an adopted son of God (for those born as biological males). There is no such thing as non-binary biological sex; that is an artificial construct of the culture, and a lie from the enemy.
